“Volunteers collected 10 bags of non-biodegradable waste last week, including glass bottles, PET bottles and plastic bags. The total weight of this waste was close to 140 kgs which was dredged out and left for drying so that NMMC could collect it later. The filth removed by the corporation workers later was even more. We realized that for a thorough clean up of the pond, we will have to undertake multiple drives and therefore the third consecutive clean up activity,” said Vashi resident and chief initiator of the activity Rohit Malhotra.
For the third clean up round, NMMC has agreed to provide the group members with basic equipment that would be required to collect waste products.
Other materials like gloves, mask and cleaning equipments like broom stick will be made available on the spot, said members.
